Twin Freedoms Day
Saturday, June 20, 2020; 10am - 1pm
COVID19 is a real and present threat to our health, safety, and economic survival. This is especially true for immigrants in our communities. The stories of those coming to our country seeking freedom compel us to ensure their aspirations are met and their basic rights upheld. Thanks to the response of countless volunteers, donors, and advocates, FIRN will sponsor Twin Freedoms Day on June 20, 2020, in advance of Independence Day on the 4th of July. Twin Freedoms Day will center on:
1. Freedom from Illness - COVID Testing thanks to the Millennium Family Practice
2. Freedom from Hunger – Food distribution thanks to the Maryland Food Bank
What is Twins Freedoms Day?
On Twin Freedoms Day, FIRN will provide at least 150 immigrant families with COVID testing and food. The Ellicott City Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has graciously offered to host the event, ensuring we have a site that is safe and allows participants to remain in their cars while being tested and picking up food. In addition, participants will be provided other resources by partners who have yet to formally sign on but from whom we will hear soon.
Each participant/family be handed a survey card with a self-addressed stamped envelope which will provide FIRN with feedback on the event. In addition, participants will receive information on other services provided by FIRN, including legal services.
Twin Freedoms Day will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 4100 St. John’s Lane, near Rt. 100 and Montgomery Road.

In addition to Millennium Family Practice who is sponsoring and leading the COVID19 testing and Maryland Food Bank who is our leading food donor, we appreciate the initial partners who are supporting this event:

We are grateful for lead sponsorships from the Millennium Health Group, Millennium Family Practice, XGene Diagnostics, Potomac Valley Home Medical, and the Maryland Food Bank. We are also grateful to our financial sponsor, M&T Bank. In addition, FIRN welcomes individual gifts to cover Freedom from Persecution, our legal services to be offered in the month of July.
We will need volunteers to assist during the day. Interested persons should contact FIRN’s Executive Director Mike Mitchell at , and use Twin Freedoms Day Volunteer in the subject line.
Protection for volunteers and participants is our first priority. The event will follow safety protocols and have medical staff on site to give direction to volunteers.
